Answer:  “Ummmm….(thinking)  I would have to say our trip to play in the tournament at Clayton State.  I mean, our bus broke down and we walked to go get food. And lets just sum the rest of the trip up with three letters: T. O. M. :)”

Recently the Lady Bulldogs did a community service project working at a local church in preparation for “Monroe Idol”.  The production featured various forms of local talent who came out to help raise money for the Union County Homeless Shelter.  All money raised was donated to help provide food, medicine, and other necessities to people who are less fortunate.  The following is a note of thanks written from John Fagala, one of the people who organized this event:

Lady Bulldogs,

Thanks for coming out to help us set up for Monroe Idol.  Your help was greatly appreciated and we could not have done it without you!

On Sunday, November 6th the Lady Bulldogs went on the road to compete in an exhibition against Elon University.  The Lady Bulldogs put up a tough battle but fell short 73- 67.  Here is a peek at what freshman Sequoia Morton thought about the battle at Elon…

Before: “Before playing the game, I felt normal.  I felt like we needed to play hard in order to win.  The fact that the school was DI didn’t shake me because we all get dressed the same way and I believed in my team.”

During: “During the first part of the game I thought we were playing extremely hard  but we just needed to communicate and rotate better on defense.  We needed to crash the boards and go back to doing the little things we work on in practice.”

After: “After the game I felt that we played as a team, but needed to know how to play hard the entire game and win as a team in the end.

On Sunday, October 30, 2010 the Lady Bulldogs traveled to Clinton (pronounced Clinnon per Coach Nelson) South Carolina to compete in the 2010-2011 season’s first scrimmage against Presbyterian College.  Here are a few thoughts from junior guard Sarah Wollett before, during, and after the game.

Before: “No MIDDLE!”  Translation: “No Middle” is a phrase we use that’s the base of our team’s defensive philosophy… KEEP THE BALL FROM THE MIDDLE OF OUR COURT!

During: “Practice is way harder than this… I’m not even tired.”  “We have the BEST trainers!”

After: “This is going to be a great year if we put our minds to it.  We have a ton of potential.”

         In an effort to take a closer look at how personal growth can have a positive effect on others and our environment the Lady Bulldogs participate in journal exercises. We  often to write our thoughts and feelings on current events, hot topics, or ideas relevant what’s going on in society.  We share our journal entries with each other from time to time.  Here’s a sneak peek at one of our most recent journal topics and what one of our player’s had to say…

Topic:  If you were to die today, what would people say about you?  What would you WANT them to say about you?

Lady Bulldogs asked a few people (family, friends, etc) to give 3-5 words they would use to describe them.  Then, examined the words to see if they were characteristics they wanted to exhibit in everyday living.

     “People described me as determined, aggressive, stubborn, and an introvert.  I want to be described as honest, loving, strong,and God-fearing.”

My first few days of class were okay.  I had a lot of adjusting to do.  My biology teacher gave a lot of work the first day of class which made things a bit stressful.  All of my other classes went pretty well.  Overall, my first week of classes went well and I like my professors.
