Answer: “Ummmm….(thinking) I would have to say our trip to play in the tournament at Clayton State. I mean, our bus broke down and we walked to go get food. And lets just sum the rest of the trip up with three letters: ~~T. O. M~~. :)”

Giving Back... Monroe Idol

Recently the Lady Bulldogs did a community service project working at a local church in preparation for “Monroe Idol”. The production featured various forms of local talent who came out to help raise money for the Union County Homeless Shelter. All money raised was donated to help provide food, medicine, and other necessities to people who are less fortunate. The following is a note of thanks written from John Fagala, one of the people who organized this event:

Inside Sequoia's Head... A Look at Sequoia Morton's Thoughts On Exhibition at Elon University

On Sunday, November 6th the Lady Bulldogs went on the road to compete in an exhibition against Elon University. The Lady Bulldogs put up a tough battle but fell short 73- 67. Here is a peek at what freshman Sequoia Morton thought about the battle at Elon…

Before: “Before playing the game, I felt normal. I felt like we needed to play hard in order to win. The fact that the school was DI didn’t shake me because we all get dressed the same way and I believed in my team.”

During: “During the first part of the game I thought we were playing extremely hard but we just needed to communicate and rotate better on defense. We needed to crash the boards and go back to doing the little things we work on in practice.”

After: “After the game I felt that we played as a team, but needed to know how to play hard the entire game and win as a team in the end.

On Sunday, October 30, 2010 the Lady Bulldogs traveled to Clinton (pronounced Clinnon per Coach Nelson) South Carolina to compete in the 2010-2011 season’s first scrimmage against Presbyterian College. Here are a few thoughts from junior guard Sarah Wollett before, during, and after the game.

Before: “No MIDDLE!” Translation: “No Middle” is a phrase we use that’s the base of our team’s defensive philosophy… KEEP THE BALL FROM THE MIDDLE OF OUR COURT!

During: “Practice is way harder than this… I’m not even tired.” “We have the BEST trainers!”

After: “This is going to be a great year if we put our minds to it. We have a ton of potential.”

In an effort to take a closer look at how personal growth can have a positive effect on others and our environment the Lady Bulldogs participate in journal exercises. We often to write our thoughts and feelings on current events, hot topics, or ideas relevant what’s going on in society. We share our journal entries with each other from time to time. Here’s a sneak peek at one of our most recent journal topics and what one of our player’s had to say…

Topic: If you were to die today, what would people say about you? What would you WANT them to say about you?

Lady Bulldogs asked a few people (family, friends, etc) to give 3-5 words they would use to describe them. Then, examined the words to see if they were characteristics they wanted to exhibit in everyday living.

My first few days of class were okay. I had a lot of adjusting to do. My biology teacher gave a lot of work the first day of class which made things a bit stressful. All of my other classes went pretty well. Overall, my first week of classes went well and I like my professors.

Ummmmm, I have been working out so hopefully I don’t fall on my face. :) I’m reading the summer book. I haven’t done anything super different from the norm.

To prepare for this upcoming year, I have been attending ACCELERATE. It’s an intense training program for basketball. It uses a lot of basketball drills and things to help with conditioning. Apart from that, I have been SHOPPING!!!!!! Getting ready for the year!

To get ready for this year, I have been running and lifting weights. I was also shooting and dribbling everyday trying to work on my weaknesses. Also, I play pick up with guys at night. To get ready for the year academically, I am taking an English course this summer as well as a leadership program.

Fashion is a unique way to define yourself. What you wear and how you present yourself is important. When picking an outfit, it’s best to know your body and what fits you best. I can be extremely indecisive when it comes to this sort of thing. I like to just throw on a pair of jean shorts and a nice shirt with a purse to match. Then to complete my whole ensemble, a pair of heels to pull everything together. I’m a tall girl, so I have to have flats in my purse for backup when my dogs start barking. But particularly, I love dresses and that would have to be my FAVORITE summer outfit. Especially the kind that flows in the wind because its already a complete outfit. I just need to add my accessories and then my look is complete.

My favorite summer dish is hard to choose because I am a big lover of food. When I am home, my favorite dish is breakfast for dinner. My mom makes homemade biscuits, which are to die for and I usually put tomato on them or homemade jelly. She also cooks sausage, bacon, and eggs. If I’m lucky we have pancakes too. And anybody that knows me knows I have Texas Pete hot sauce on most of it. :) My favorite summer dish when we go on vacation is fried popcorn shrimp with french fries. I always get it when we go out to eat at the beach!

Father’s Day is a great time of year to reflect on the people in our lives that are special to us. I am fortunate my father is one of those people for me. The way he has positively influenced my life allows me to strive to positively contribute to the lives of my players. While Father’s Day is especially set aside for fathers, it can also be a great time to show appreciation for all those we love.

My ideal summer vacation would be on a private island, where it was completely peaceful, but somewhere you could have a lot of fun at. I would bring some of my closest friends who I know I would always have a good time with.
